A historic farm of Gentlemana in Bedford Hills, New York, with roots that extend until the eighteenth century – and a story that includes politicians, doctors and television pioneers – has reached the market for the first time in more than three decades.
Known as Buxton Pond, Westchester’s 11 -hectare county ownership calls for $ 5.5 million, according to a statement from his intermediation.
Its current owners have spent in recent years restaurant and preserving the many historical structures of the estate, including an 18th -century school house, which is believed to be the oldest surviving building in its type in Bedford Hills, restored in 2023.
In the center of the property is a five -dormitory five -bedroom colonial house built in 1795.
The residence retains many of its original characteristics, including wide pine lands, wooden chimneys and a traditional clapboard exterior.
The rooms are aimed at having views of the garden, opening in the lawns carried out with rose rose beds and rare botanical plantations. A pool framed by floral borders adds a modern note.
Over the centuries, the estate has served as a removal for several notable figures.
The former New York Governor, Dewitt Clinton, the driving force of the Erie Canal, once called the Property House.
Clinton’s contemporary and collaborator, the doctor and botanist David Hosack, better known as the duel attending physician between the founder of New York Post, Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr, also associated with the site.
In the twentieth century, it was owned by Gertrude Berg, a pioneering actress and writer who became a house name for her representation of Molly Goldberg. His time on the farm was presented in the 2009 documentary “Yoo-Hoo, Mrs. Goldberg”.
In addition to its notable residents, the Earth has a deeper legacy: it is believed to have been a stop on the underground railway. The original stone walls that once offered coverage to freedom applicants remain intact.
The current owners have continued the tradition of social impact of the farm through the establishment of Buxton Pond Farm Center, a non -profit learning center on the field. The center offers workshops in botany, herbalists and permaculture and supplies fresh produce to local families by collaborating with the Mount Kisco Interfaith food pantry.
Beyond the main residence, the estate includes a collection of historical dependencies, including a barn with eight stops and quarters of private life, a separate three car garage, an ancient chicken house and a greenhouse with a terraced office.
Located about 40 kilometers from Manhattan, the property is located just minutes from the Bedford Hills train station, the schools and villages, which offer a rare combination of rural privacy and commuter comfort.
